Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter in their family. At the age of five her father was a carnival barker which left Ruth's mother without a choice other than to be a cleaning girl and waitress to feed the family. Ruth went to school and was poor throughout Boston Massachusetts the tenement districts. However, she left school in the span of two years of school to explore a career in acting. It was not without difficulties. When she was offered a job in New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she was unable to find jobs for stage. Then, she worked as a hat check girl at the nightclub before calling her quits and relocating to Boston. The city of Boston was when she worked at night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time she was an usherette. Drama studies led her to earn her degree at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
